Intro To Navigation Courses
(Beginner)
Gain the confidence to take your first steps in the right direction, with GerOutdoors; 1 day beginners navigation tuition course
Your course will take place in the heart of the beautiful Brecon Beacons, where you will have easy access to the superb facilities of the National Park’s recently refurbished Mountain Centre. Beginning with a variety of activities to explain the basics and take the fear away from this fascinating topic, you’ll then start putting these principles into practice, under the safe and patient instruction of an experienced Tutor. We’ll proceed on to Mynydd Illtud Common, which is a gently undulating landscape, well within the capabilities of those interested in learning new techniques for hillwalking. You’ll quickly gain confidence in working with maps through practical application. You’ll no longer have to rely solely on your phone signal and battery to find your way! Small group sizes help ensure individual attention where no-one feels out of their depth, so you can concentrate on having fun and learning new skills!
Further Navigation
(Intermediate)
Build upon the skills covered in the introductory course to increase your knowledge and venture further afield.
The course will help you understand additional navigation techniques to give you the confidence to explore further and across more complex terrain. We'll look at compass techniques to allow you to choose routes away from marked paths.
Additional planning activities will be covered to enable you to design your own routes and follow them, keeping on track, as you go. You'll also learn techniques to re-locate - essential if you become temporarily misplaced.
Next Steps
Once you have gained the confidence from these courses, you'll be able to practice and progress via your personalised action plan, drawn up at the end of the day.
